Mirror Egyptian
Anna Petrus
1929
The Mirror Lion was designed by Anna Petrus during the second half of the 1920s. The restrained, geometric frame is crowned by a reclining lion – a motif that Petrus returned to in several of her most celebrated works. The combination of architectural lines and sculptural details gives the mirror a powerful yet elegant expression.
The lion motif became an early signature of Anna Petrus and appeared in several of the exhibitions in which she participated during her career as a sculptor and artist. The motif can also be found in several of her designs for Svenskt Tenn, including the sculpture Lion and Bookend Lion, both designed during the 1920s.
