The Aesthetics of the Study
A Space for Focus
Creating a study at home is about creating a place for calm and concentration. A comfortable chair, a beautiful desk and bookshelves for both books and decorative objects form the foundation of a study where function and aesthetics work in harmony.
Designed by Josef Frank in 1943, Bookcase 2255 is an example of how he enjoyed combining different materials in his furniture. The white-painted frame contrasts with the bookcase’s green back panel, while the plinth, top and details are crafted in walnut. Bookcase 2255 is also available with a glass cabinet section, providing space for personal and treasured objects.
The study is a harmonious balance of function and aesthetics.

Inspired by Nature
Throughout her life, Svenskt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson created countless interiors, table settings and exhibitions that helped shape the history of Swedish design. For Ericson, work and creativity were always at the heart of everything she did – something reflected in her own studies.
When Svenskt Tenn opened its shop at Strandvägen 5 in 1927, Estrid Ericson’s workspace was located on the ground floor. Papers and sketches shared the large desk with a variety of decorative objects. Later, Ericson moved her study upstairs to the second floor of the shop. That study, which can best be described as an artist’s studio, has been preserved as a reminder of Estrid Ericson’s legacy. Behind glass, everything remains exactly as Ericson left it at the time of her passing in 1981, and the room continues to inspire visitors today.
Designed by Josef Frank in the 1940s, Desk 1022 is a jewel in the study with its elegant, slender design.
Josef Frank’s Desk 1022
Designed by Josef Frank in the 1940s, Desk 1022 is sometimes referred to as the “Schatull” desk or “writing case”. Its slender, recessed legs and drawers concealed within the apron recall the type of portable writing desk popular during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The desk combines several different timbers: the top is crafted in rosewood with a fine birch inlay, while the frame and legs are made of mahogany. The lockable drawers are fitted with brass handles, adding further warmth to the different timbers. Desk 1022 is a functional piece of furniture – and a jewel in the study.
