Never let the home be fully complete

A home derives its personal imprint, not from a certain, contrived harmony of colour but from all the things gathered in the course of a lifetime. All the things one used to be fond of and is fond of now. Our homes are never complete; we spend the whole of our lives building them.

– Svenskt Tenn’s founder, Estrid Ericson

Exhibited at Strandvägen 5 18.08.2022 – 10.09.2022

Estrid Ericson's and Josef Frank's interior design style was personal and permissive. It was colourful and patterned, included both high and low and was influenced by different cultures and eras. It was based on the premise that everything fits together: that different furniture styles, colours and patterns can be combined into one peaceful whole. In interiors, this style was combined with Josef Frank's interior design philosophy ‘Accidentism’ – the idea that we should shape our surroundings as if they had arisen by chance.

This is also how Svenskt Tenn’s Interior Design Studio works when taking on commissions both in private homes and public environments. Here, Hedvig Barnekow, manager of the Interior Design Studio, tells us more about the philosophy.
