Sofa 968

Josef Frank designed Sofa 968, also called the "Banana sofa", for Svenskt Tenn in the late 1930s. With the curved shape, he broke the often straight and firm design traditions of the time. The shape of the sofa softens the interior, and the so-called English rim has both an aesthetic and a practical function, as it helps to keep the seat cushions in place.

O.H. Sjögren’s furniture factory in Tranås has been producing upholstered furniture for Svenskt Tenn since 1982. The factory was founded back in 1902 by Oskar Herbert Sjögren, and the original idea of producing the highest conceivable quality remains the same today, more than 100 years later. Producing Svenskt Tenn’s upholstered furniture is a time-consuming process that requires great craftsmanship, and a team of exceptional furniture makers, seamstresses and upholsterers lies behind the production.

The print probably got its name after Josef Frank’s comment: "It was a miracle that such a small repeat could be the source of something so grand".
