Björn Trägårdh

Björn Trägårdh (1908 – 1998) was only 20 years old when he first became associated with Svenskt Tenn. Together with architect Uno Åhrén, he contributed several pieces of furniture to the store’s first furniture department. Alongside Svenskt Tenn’s founder, Estrid Ericson, Björn Trägårdh curated several notable exhibitions and he also designed pewter objects and lamps for Svenskt Tenn over the years.

Björn Trägårdh primarily worked in a muted colour palette in black, white, and grey. In 1939, he moved to Paris to pursue visual arts. During and after WWII, he returned to craftsmanship, creating buttons and brooches for renowned fashion houses such as Dior, Bruyère, and Schiaparelli. His work can be found, among others, at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, Institut Tessin in Paris, as well as art museums in Tours and Pau in France. In Svenskt Tenn's range today, there are pewter objects, lighting, and upholstered furniture, created by Björn Trägårdh during the 1930s.
