Reading nook Svenskt Tenn

FURNISHED FOR RECREATION

A steaming cup of tea on a rainy day and a pile of books calling out to be read. Svenskt Tenn’s classic tray stand is ideal as a side table and equally at home indoors in the reading nook or next to a bench in the conservatory. The table is handcrafted in clear varnished walnut, with beautiful highlights in timeless brass.

TRAY STAND

During his time at Svenskt Tenn, Josef Frank designed almost 120 different items of upholstered furniture, including both sofas and armchairs in classic, soft designs. One example is armchair 336, clad in Baranquilla fabric, which was reintroduced into Svenskt Tenn’s range in the spring of 2017. Josef Frank preferred floral cretonne as fabric, rather than traditional single-hue furniture fabrics, and gladly combined different materials and patterns in his furnishing schemes.

Be inspired by Josef Frank when furnishing your reading nook and don’t be afraid to mix together different patterns, on furniture as well as carpets.

The carpet, which has earned the nickname “the Beast”, spreads out in the room like the skin rug of a monstrous mythical creature. Josef Frank Frank was no fan of game hunting and he designed several carpets with the aim of replacing genuine animal hides. His carpets also often resemble stone paved terraces or have abstract patterns. To his mind, flowers and birds were not to be trampled upon, while monsters were perhaps a different matter.
