In 1941, Josef Frank designed Under Ekvatorn - one of his most vibrant and colourful prints ever created for Svenskt Tenn. Now, 80 years later, the artist Evelina Kroon has used the print as inspiration for her the Easter collection where Frank’s colour palette is given new life through dynamic compositions of strict lines.
In Evelina’s intriguing design, the check is in focus, while fine, tactile and organic details can be discerned in both lines and structure. The collection consists of a handwoven table cloth, napkins, placemats and hand blown egg ornaments in clear glass, all painted by hand.
The collection was designed for the first time last year, 2021, but are back in the assortment also this year.
“I love crafts in every form and am fascinated by the meeting between different colours, materials and compositions. The checkered pattern is a recurring theme in my artistry, but I find inspiration in everything that surrounds me: in nature, in everyday life, in contemporary and historical art.”
