  • Design

Estrid Ericson’s aesthetic environments and Josef Frank’s versatility inspired Harri Koskinen when he designed the floor lamp and table lamp for Svenskt Tenn. A visit to the store on Strandvägen 5, with its homey environments and greenery, were the basis for the idea of transforming a Monstera Deliciosa or Philodendron, into beautiful lighting. Thin slits in the leaves form decorative shadows on walls and ceiling. Brass was an obvious choice to work with – a warm material, which creates pleasing reflections, where the play between light and shadow come into their own.

  • Care instructions
Svenskt Tenn’s lamps are lacquered and should never be polished. Wipe the surfaces lightly with a fiber cloth. Avoid contact with water.

  • Sustainability and manufacturing

    Material

    Brass

Twenty-five to thirty-five per cent of the brass used in Svenskt Tenn’s lamps is recycled. The lamps are manufactured in Blekinge by a company that was founded in 1884 and is probably Sweden’s most prestigious company in its field. Design, product development and handcrafted production are all under one roof, just as it has always been done.

The brass is purchased from a rolling mill outside of Florence that is considered to have the best quality in Europe, and the brass scraps are recycled. They are sorted in the factory and the pure brass can be melted down into new metal. The brass with residue from soldering must be given a finishing treatment before it can become brass again.

All electrical materials for the lamps are manufactured in Italy. The lamp manufacturer works in accordance with a policy whereby all components that are purchased must be of Swedish or European origin.
