Svenskt Tenn is a Swedish interior design company founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson — a pioneering entrepreneur, visionary, and designer. Originally starting as a workshop and retail space dedicated to pewter, Svenskt Tenn established a strong foundation in craftsmanship that continues to define the company today.
In the 1930s, Austrian-born designer and architect Josef Frank joined the company, marking a decisive expansion of its creative direction — from pewter to a rich and expressive universe of interiors. Through the close collaboration between Ericson and Frank, Svenskt Tenn became synonymous with Frank’s boldly patterned textiles and distinctive furniture designs. Over the years, Frank produced more than 3,000 drawings and sketches, along with approximately 250 signed prints, all preserved in Svenskt Tenn’s archive.
Since its founding, craftsmanship has been at the core of Svenskt Tenn. Today, pewter remains a central part of the collection, alongside furniture, textiles, and objects for the home. The company works closely with carefully selected, small-scale suppliers in Sweden and across Europe to create pieces defined by exceptional quality.

Josef Frank“To create something that feels alive,
one must always start with something living.”

Svenskt Tenn’s pewter collection lies at the heart of the company. This is where it all began in 1924, when founder Estrid Ericson opened a pewter workshop and store. At the time, pewter was considered both modern and fashionable — an affordable yet beautiful alternative to silver. Today, it remains central to Svenskt Tenn’s collection.
