Guided tour: Josef Frank

Guided Tour at Svenskt Tenn: An Introduction to Josef Frank

Welcome to a short guided tour at Svenskt Tenn – dedicated to architect and designer Josef Frank, who would have turned 140 this year.

Born in Baden near Vienna on 15 July 1885, Josef Frank had a successful career in Austria before fleeing the country at nearly 50, due to rising antisemitism. In Sweden, he began a lifelong collaboration with Svenskt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson – a partnership that helped shape the company and left a lasting mark on the design scene well beyond Sweden.

During this 20-minute tour, you’ll be introduced to Josef Frank’s creative life and philosophy, his distinctive view of the home, and some of the iconic furniture and textile designs that remain part of Svenskt Tenn’s collection today. You’ll also learn about the unique archive that preserves most of his work – and the craftsmanship that keeps his legacy alive.

Date and times:
15 July 11.00 CET – Tour in English
15 July 13.00 CET – Tour in Swedish
15 July 15.00 CET – Tour in English

“There’s nothing wrong with mixing old and new, with combining different furniture styles, colours and patterns. Things that you like will automatically fuse to form a relaxing entity.”
