All of Svenskt Tenn’s lamps are tested and marked with the product name (for example Svenskt Tenn 2552) and CE marked according to the safety standards and regulations within the EU/EEA, except for the U.K. and Switzerland. Further markings indicating safety standards are added for each product.

Svenskt Tenn recommends using a matte LED bulb. This light source is both energy saving and will keep your lampshade in a good condition while no shadows will reflect on it.

  • Design

Josef Frank started his own company, Haus und Garten in Vienna during the 1920s. His idea of creating lamps with three curved legs on round feet, to make the design elegant and airy, was derived from this period. He created the 2326 model in 1934, and in 2022, French architect and designer India Mahdavi modified the lamp, creating a new, contemporary version of it.

This unique floor lamp is all about exaggeration, with abounding orange colours and a vibrant lampshade. Mahdavi added an orange leather wrap, combining it with a unique version of lampshade 2560, nicknamed the Carl Larsson lamp – a Swedish painter representative of the Arts and Crafts movement. The lampshade has become a classic in Svenskt Tenn’s range, inspired by the Larsson family’s home in Sundborn, Sweden. Mahdavi created her version of the lampshade in Josef Frank’s well-known Vegetable Tree print. The lamp and lampshade are sold separately.

Josef Frank grew up in Vienna and studied architecture at Konstgewerbeschule. In the 1920s he designed housing estates and large residential blocks built around common courtyards in a Vienna with severe housing shortages. In 1925 he started the Haus & Garten interior firm together with architect colleagues Oskar Wlach and Walther Sobotka. Svenskt Tenn hired Josef Frank in 1934 and just a few years later he and Estrid Ericson made their international breakthrough. Although he was already 50 when he left the burgeoning Nazism in Vienna for Sweden, Frank is considered one of Sweden’s most important designers. Read more

  • Care instructions
Svenskt Tenn’s lamps are lacquered and should never be polished. Wipe the surfaces lightly with a fiber cloth. Avoid contact with water.

  • Sustainability and manufacturing

Twenty-five to thirty-five per cent of the brass used in Svenskt Tenn’s lamps is recycled. The lamps are manufactured in Blekinge by a company that was founded in 1884 and is probably Sweden’s most prestigious company in its field. Design, product development and handcrafted production are all under one roof, just as it has always been done.

The brass is purchased from a rolling mill outside of Florence that is considered to have the best quality in Europe, and the brass scraps are recycled. They are sorted in the factory and the pure brass can be melted down into new metal. The brass with residue from soldering must be given a finishing treatment before it can become brass again.

All electrical materials for the lamps are manufactured in Italy. The lamp manufacturer works in accordance with a policy whereby all components that are purchased must be of Swedish or European origin.
