Interior Designer Hedvig Barnekow

Svenskt Tenn’s Interior Design Philosophy

At Svenskt Tenn’s Interior Design Studio, interior designer and art historian Hedvig Barnekow works with the philosophy first shaped by Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank.
It blends Frank’s idea of human modernism with Ericson’s artistic sensibility, always with people’s needs at its core. The approach is open and permissive, placing comfort and ease of living at the forefront. With inspiration from Svenskt Tenn’s wide assortment, and by combining it with each client’s existing pieces, the interior designers create rooms that are both timeless and deeply personal.

“There are no rights or wrongs in Svenskt Tenn’s interior design philosophy. For me as a designer, the most important thing is to listen to the client’s dreams and needs, so that I can create a home and an environment where they truly feel at ease.”

How a Project Unfolds

Every project with Svenskt Tenn’s Interior Design Studio begins with a conversation. In the first meeting, the client’s wishes, needs, and circumstances are discussed, shaping the direction of the collaboration. No two projects are ever the same – the philosophy can be applied to an entire interior as well as to rearranging a room. From there, the designers develop mood boards, layouts, and proposals that bring the client’s vision to life.

“Booking your first meeting at the Interior Design Studio is easy. That’s when we define the framework of the project – its scope and direction. We’re always here to help, whether it’s a full-scale interior or simply adding curtains to a living room.”

One Brand – Many Expressions

The first meeting sets the tone for the project – and often reveals how Svenskt Tenn’s assortment can be combined with what already exists in the home. This approach is a hallmark of the Interior Design Studio and sets it apart from many other design studios that often work within a single, consistent style.

The interiors are therefore never too conceptual or uniform but always reflect the personality of the client. An 18th-century heirloom might be paired with contemporary Danish design and complemented by furniture, textiles, or objects from Svenskt Tenn. Sometimes bold colours and patterns take centre stage, while at other times the result is more restrained, with a subtle and neutral palette.
In my work I draw on Svenskt Tenn’s wide assortment, but the brand embraces many different expressions. We create interiors in a wide range of styles – from colourful and patterned to more understated and pared back.

Timeless and personal is Hedvig Barnekow’s approach

Built on Lasting Quality

A cornerstone of the Interior Design Studio’s work is creating interiors that stand the test of time. The focus is on quality, longevity, and craftsmanship – with genuine materials that age beautifully. Every interior Hedvig Barnekow creates maintains a personal touch, while remaining timeless enough to adapt to different settings. Pieces can move with the client, be reupholstered when needed, and be cherished by future generations.

“In every project I ask myself: How can I help the client feel even more at home? How can we create an interior that is personal, yet also timeless and lasting? That is always my goal.”

“The most important thing for me is that the client feels at home. I want the interior to be exactly as they imagined, and even a little bit better. That their high expectations are not only met, but exceeded.”
