With intricate figures—birds, flowers and plants—set against a backdrop of floating, cloud-like fields of colour on either a black or white ground, Josef Frank created Anakreon: a pattern rich in depth, life and movement.

It all began with a blue bird. Estrid Ericson had fallen in love with a 3,500-year-old fresco from the Minoan palace of Knossos in Crete, depicting a bird known as L’oiseau bleu.

Josef Frank’s Anakreon pattern is meticulously crafted using the screen printing technique— an intricate method that demands precision and artisanal skill.
