Porcelain for a more beautiful everyday
Setting the table with porcelain creates a sense of harmony, where function and beauty come together. Svenskt Tenn’s assortment includes everything from mugs and cups to plates, bowls and jugs – pieces that can be combined into a personal porcelain tableware set for both everyday use and festive occasions.
Different tableware collections
A porcelain tableware set from Svenskt Tenn carries equal parts tradition and contemporary elegance. Among the assortment are historical and timeless collections from the French manufacturer Gien, where the colourful bird and floral patterns were first created around 1865. The tableware includes breakfast cups, bowls, plates and serving dishes – all produced at the Gien factory in the Loire Valley, where every step of the process is carried out on site with skill and care.
Porcelain from around the world
Svenskt Tenn collaborates with some of the world’s most renowned porcelain makers. The range includes Fornasetti’s decorative plate, handcrafted in Italy with the original motif applied in the atelier. There is also contemporary Egyptian craftsmanship from Malaika – such as the hand-made plate with branches and green leaves from Fayoum. The Italian series Oriente Italiano from Ginori 1735 is another example of how classic porcelain can transform the everyday meal into a memorable experience.
Design classics in porcelain
Svenskt Tenn’s own history is also represented in the porcelain tableware selection. The Myrten plate, designed by Signe Persson-Melin, complements the pewter tea service she created for Svenskt Tenn in 2004. Its delicate green pattern, closely associated with love, connects the table setting to the tradition of decorating bridal crowns with myrtle leaves.
Estrid Ericson’s legacy
Estrid Ericson has long been known as the “Queen of Table Settings.” As early as 1933, she debuted as a table setting artist with the exhibition Bord duka dig! at Strandvägen 5 in Stockholm – an event that attracted great attention. Ericson highlighted the importance of allowing beauty to be part of everyday life, a tradition that lives on in Svenskt Tenn’s porcelain. Here, history, craftsmanship and creativity meet at every meal.
In a 1945 radio lecture entirely devoted to the laid table, Estrid Ericson shared her thoughts and advice on table setting. She emphasised the value of inviting beauty into daily life and letting it take place without excess:“… So important for life’s happiness is our meal, that we should make every effort to ensure it becomes a pleasant occasion …”— Estrid Ericson
Caring for your porcelain
To preserve the lustre and function of porcelain, gentle care is recommended. Wash by hand when possible and avoid strong detergents that may affect decorations or gold rims. With the right care, a porcelain tableware set can be cherished and used for generations to come.
