An artistic interior

Centred around a sofa upholstered in Josef Frank’s iconic Anakreon textile, this interior was created as a tribute to the contemporary Greek artist Alekos Fassianos—where ancient poetry meets modern art. The inspiration is twofold: drawn both from the print’s origins in a 3,500-year-old fresco from Knossos in Crete, and from Fassianos’ distinctive visual language, with his expressive figures, birds and blue-toned silhouettes that echo the classical motif.

In his works, Fassianos created a sense of movement in the motifs by depicting the wind blowing through the hair.

Cushion Beneath The Same Sky

It was the blue bird, L’oiseau bleu, from the fresco in the Cretan palace, that first caught Svenslt Tenn’s founder Estrid Ericson’s attention—an image later reimagined by Josef Frank in what would become the now-well known Anakreon print. Much like the birds and cloud-shaped fields of colour in the design, the room unfolds in a poetic interplay between past and present. The stylised figures drawn from the Minoan fresco evoke a mythological era, in much the same way as Fassianos’ characteristic paintings, which adorn the cushions in the living room. The bird is also one of Fassianos’s recurring motifs, symbolising freedom.
