With intricate figuresâbirds, flowers and plantsâset against a backdrop of floating, cloud-like fields of colour on either a black or white ground, Josef Frank createdâŻAnakreon: a pattern rich in depth, life and movement.

It all began with a blue bird. Estrid Ericson had fallen in love with a 3,500-year-old fresco from the Minoan palace of Knossos in Crete, depicting a bird known asâŻLâoiseau bleu.

Josef Frankâs Anakreon pattern is meticulously crafted using the screen printing techniqueâ an intricate method that demands precision and artisanal skill.

Austrian designer and architect Josef Frank has had an enormous impact on the history of Swedish design. Despite being nearly 50 years old when emigrating to Sweden, he is now considered one of the countryâs most important designers of all time.
