Holiday table setting

How to create an atmospheric table setting in the spirit of Svenskt Tenn.

This holiday season, Svenskt Tenn sets the table with a combination of traditional and innovative elements. A checkered tablecloth, designed by the artist Evelina Kroon for Christmas 2021 is in focus, accompanied by Josef Frank's oval glass plates from the 1940s and colourful schnapps glasses, made by Reijmyre Glassworks after an original from the 18th century.

A historic look back Holiday table settings

“Entering Estrid Ericson’s shop at Christmastime was like going to a market for a foretaste of the festive mood so as to absorb ideas for big moments at the table.”

Swedish art historian Margareta Lindahl Åkerman writes these words in the book “Estrid Ericson – Founder of Svenskt Tenn”. And she is exactly right. Estrid Ericson, who so often created simple and sparsely decorated table settings, could add playful and decorative elements to the table during holiday seasons. A tiny Christmas tree in the middle, surrounded by grapes, apples and candle holders is one example of how she adorned one table setting in the 1950s.

Create a warm atmosphere with candlesticks

A holiday table setting is not complete without candles, and in Svenskt Tenn's range there are candlesticks designed from the 1920s until today. For Christmas 2021, one of Josef Frank's historical candlesticks has been relaunched: hand-turned design in lacquered birch wood with a candle holder in brass, designed in 1952. The candlestick was shown in Svenskt Tenn’s Christmas exhibition the same year, and it is now back in a beautiful, bright green colour.

How to serve The drinks of the season

Drinks and accessories are served on Josef Frank's classic tea trolley from the 1930s – a mood-enhancing and decorative element in the interior. It holds glasses as well as a bottle opener, ice bucket and shaker. The bottles can be resealed with the globe-shaped bottle cork in nickel-plated brass, which was relaunched in Svenskt Tenn’s range for Christmas 2021, after an original preserved in the company’s archive.
