Rug Frank Nr 7

Svenskt Tenn’s double-weaved rag rug, “Schackrutan,” was designed by Margit Thorén in the 1940s.

Some of Margit Thorén's most celebrated creations from the 1940s are those designed for Svenskt Tenn and Estrid Ericson: the Gripsholmsruta textile, the Schackruta rug, and the Vägen upholstery fabric. These enduring classics continue to be part of Svenskt Tenn's timeless range.

The Shackruta rug is handwoven by Vandra Rugs' skilled weavers in Ukraine, using advanced weaving techniques.

Entrepreneur and textile designer Margit Thorén graduated from Sofi Almquist’s coeducational school in 1931 and then continued her studies at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, where she majored in interior design. In 1934, the 20-year-old Thorén was hired by Estrid Ericson at Svenskt Tenn.
