Classic and contemporary dining room

Svenskt Tenn combines classic with contemporary and modern design in the dining room. You can furnish with dining room chairs designed by Josef Frank in the 1920s and dining tables created by contemporary designers in the 2000s. When it comes to dining room lighting and light fixtures, you can combine ceiling lamps by Josef Frank with floor lamps created by designers such as Harri Koskinen and Luca Nichetto.

Choose the right dining room chairs

For Josef Frank, the most important aspects when designing chairs were lightness, a transparent back and an organic form. He believed that a dining chair should be light enough to lift with just a finger and that the owner should be able to easily place and move the chair around the room.

Josef Frank also advocated that the design of dining room chairs should always be based on the anatomy of the human body. In Obs! Magazine in 1954, he wrote: “Anyone who sees a chair simply as a piece of furniture to sit on, will always sit uncomfortably. […] I personally never sit on a chair that is designed for just one position. I want the possibility of sitting in different ways for different occasions and at different times of the day.

When choosing chairs for your dining room, you should keep this in mind. It is not only about looks, but also about comfort and adaptability.
