Beautifully arranged table settings

Both table settings for everyday use and special occasions can be beautifully arranged with Svenskt Tenn’s printed and solid colour table fabrics, delicate glasses, hand-painted cups, plates and dishes.

In your table setting you can mix different colours, prints and materials to find your own personal statement and table-setting style. Svenskt Tenn’s range includes a wide selection of everything that is needed for a beautiful table setting in your home, whatever the occasion. Here you can create your own cosy table setting.

Set the table in the spirit of Estrid Ericson

Svenskt Tenn frequently sets the table “in the spirit of Estrid Ericson.” This has become a matter of course, stemming from the fact that Svenskt Tenn’s founder was a master at setting tables. Her table settings were talked about and publicised – they were simple, yet refined.

For over 50 years, Estrid Ericson arranged table settings at Svenskt Tenn, and on every holiday a new, inspiring table setting was displayed. Over time, these table settings were talked about, becoming legendary. They reached a large audience, both in Sweden and internationally through, among other things, exhibitions, newspaper articles, radio reports and books.

Table-setting exhibition

The “Table Be Set” exhibition in 1933 was Estrid Ericson’s first table-setting exhibition. Here she broke with the old and created her very own style. She replaced the traditional white damask tablecloth and elaborately folded napkins with coloured tablecloths and simply folded napkins. Her table settings were unique and she combined wood, fabrics, ceramics, glass and flowers in her very own, personal way. Josef Frank entered the picture in 1934, and with him came prints and colours. That same year saw the inauguration of Svenskt Tenn’s upper floor, where Estrid Ericson set the table with a floral tablecloth for the first time. She was also the first one to introduce, among other things, nickel silver in modern table settings.

“We sit at the table more than a thousand times every year of our lives and our meals bring such pleasure to our lives that we should make an effort, so it becomes an enjoyable occasion. We should seize any opportunity to provide it with poetry and delight” – Estrid Ericson in a 1945 radio interview.
